BSOD after installing WIndows XP Pro SP2 (32-bit)
Hello and thank you if you are taking the time to read this post. I hope someone out there has the answer.
Here is the the situation:
I started working for a corporation and wanted to create Ghost images for various Dell systems that we have. In speaking with the other technicians here, they said they have had little success. We have a volume license key for Windows XP Pro SP2 (32-bit) and a volume license key. The key works fine and has been verified.
After doing a clean install using the Windows XP Volume License CD, any of the Dell systems we have immediately get the BSOD and the system reboots. The error goes by too quickly to capture the exact error that it is getting. If I use a Dell OEM Windows XP CD, it will work and boot without any issues. Only problem is once a system built, Sysprep'd and imaged, it will give a "Invalid License Key" and the key off the tag on the PC has to be entered. Once Windows starts, Windows has to be validated.
This is not the end of the world, however it seems that there should be a reasonable solution to this problem and doing this would defeat the purpose of having a volume license. My guess is there is something specific that the hardware checks for while Windows is being setup or started that identifies that it is a OEM Windows XP install vs. a non-OEM install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
