Belarc Advisor

Running belarc advisor, I have some red x's on some items in the list. I have five disabled accounts which have nothing to do with my local user accounts. What are local system accounts and does it matter if I have five disabled local system accounts?

First you have to download and install qfecheck, for it to run on your PC

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282784  Select Windows 2000 or XP on this page

Following the instructions for troubleshooting windows updates, microsoft updates, and windows server updates, the first step is to view installation history on the windows update website. Doing this, I have the following two updates and error codes
Security update for windows xp (KB913446)
Error code is 0x80242006

Windows malicious software removal tool - october 2005 (KB890830)
Error code is 0x80246008

I had no idea that these two updates failed to install. I did some research for the two error codes and here is what they mean:
0x080242006 - WU_E_UH_INVALIDMETADATA A handler operation could not be completed because the update contains invalid metadata

0x80246008 - WU_E_DM_FAILTOCONNECTTOBITS A download manager failed because the download manager was unable to connect the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)

The next step is to locate the installation log file. The log is in %systemroot%\KB######.log file. Where is the file located?

I did edit, but now I'm asking a new question, where is the log file located for the windows update website?

In the first link I provided it states.

" Note ###### is the number of a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

For example, if the package that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 12345 is not successfully installed, click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\KB12345.log, and then click OK to troubleshoot the problem."

One of the updates you're having an issue with is KB913446,follow instructions above.

The  log file is probably in c:\program files....

Unless I'm not doing something right, I went to start, run and then typed in %systemroot%\KB913446.log. That brings up the following error message:

C:\WINDOWS\KB913446.log
Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\KB913446.log'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again, To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search
                                                         OK

If I go to the program files folder, then what? It would help to have the complete file name path.

Start>run>%systemroot%\KB913446.log should open the update's log file in Notepad. If it didn't find the log, then that's at least part of your problem. There's no history of its installation.

Manually download the update from the MS site and save to your hard drive. Then double-click on saved file to install it. Here's link to download it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7BB21D74-C37B-472B-BB10-71D4680680A7&displaylang=en

Do the same for any other updates marked as problems in Belarc Advisor.

I don't know the complete file name path.I just pointed you in a direction. As I previously suggested & rohe also suggested try installing them manually.

Will do. At this time, I'm busy with other things in my life, but I'll get on this when I have the time.

I looked at the add remove programs list and the update is listed as a security update with the option to remove so why don't I remove the update, go to the microsoft website and download the update again. If I encounter an error when I attempt to remove the update, I'll let you know.

I have never uninstalled an update from the windows update website, When I clicked on remove, I recieved the following two dialog boxes:

Software Update Removal Wizard
 Inspecting Current Configuration
 Checking for Necessary Space
 Stopping Services
 Restoring Catalogs
 Running Processes Before Uninstall

Hitting next, brings up the following dialog box
KB913446
Setup detected the following programs on your computer.

If KB913446 is removed, these programs might not run properly. Do you
 want to continue?
                           Yes                  No

Where it says the following programs, every program that is installed, is listed. Is windows trying to scare me with the last dialog box?

I did set a restore point right before that box poped up, but why would a program suddenly not work when the update is uninstalled?
