However, you still need to download the trial version of 'MS Office H & S 2010' and activate it with the product key on the MPI card. Please download the trial version of Office from this link: http://bit.ly/asXkMX

3. Install other 'factory installed software applications': You should be able to download and install all the factory installed software either from 'My Dell Downloads' or 'Digital Dell Delivery'. You may refer to this web article on Dell support website for more details: http://dell.to/zoxkZh

Hi Mauri,

Thank you for responding. Apologies for delay in my response.

1. I checked the order details and found that the laptop was shipped with 'MS Office H & S 2010' MPI (Microsoft Product Identifier) card.

MPI card is a small paper card and it is required to activate 'Office Suite' that you purchased with the laptop. You may refer to the following web article for detailed information on the MPI card: http://dell.to/r9Ytgz

Have a look at  this video which explains how to locate the MPI card: http://bit.ly/T18eph

2. Install the video drivers from nVIDIA website directly:
- Click http://www.geforce.com/drivers
- Click 'Auto-detect your GPU'
- Software utility on nVIDIA website detects the GPU in your laptop and recommends you with the most updated video driver
- Download and install the driver as per the on-screen instructions

If you face issues with the auto-detect utility, install the driver alternatively:
- Click http://bit.ly/Qiagh4
- Click 'Agree and Download'
- Follow through with positive moves to finish installation

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. Glad to assist.

Hi maurilesette,

It appears that you're trying to restore the system back to factory settings. Absence of 'Datasafe Local & Emergency Backup' option in 'Windows Recovery Environment' indicates that the 'Recovery Partition' in the system may not be accessible.

I recommend you to run 'Hardware Diagnostics' to verify 'Hardware Functionality'. If no 'Hardware Issues' are detected, you may try using the 'Bootrec.exe tool' in the 'Windows Recovery Environment' to troubleshoot. Please follow the steps listed below:

  • Insert the Microsoft  Install DVD into the DVD drive of the computer
  • Restart (or power on) the computer
  • Repeatedly tap key as soon as the keyboard lights up
  • The 'Boot Menu' appears
  • Highlight 'CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive', and then press the key
  • A window appears that says 'Press any Key to Boot from a CD or DVD'
  • Promptly tap a key on the keyboard 2 - 4 times
  • Click 'Language, Time, Currency and Keyboard Method', and then click 'Next'
  • On the Windows Installation page, click 'Repair your Computer'
  • Click 'Windows 7', and then click 'Next'
  • In the 'System Recovery Options' dialog box, click 'Command Prompt'
  • Type 'Bootrec.exe' (without quotation), and then press 'Enter'

Note  Use the Bootrec.exe tool to troubleshoot "Bootmgr Is Missing" issue. If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt.

You may want to refer to the following 'Microsoft article' for detailed steps:  http://bit.ly/cgXqT

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions; would be glad to assist.

Also... This is the problem in more detail...my daughter was watching a video off her jump drive  my laptop. all of a sudden, i was every file on my computer disappear. now when i turn on the laptop, i see the dell logo, the screen goes black, there is a white bar at the bottom that says "Windows is loading files", then after loaded, i get the startup repair window, then "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically"  on "view problem details" i get  following:

problem signature:

problem event name:     startup repair offline

problem signature 01:   6.1.7600.16385

p s 02:  6.1.7600.16385

ps03:  unknown

ps04:  4

ps05:  autofailover

ps06:  1

ps07:  missing OsLoader

OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1

locale id:  1033

i also tried f8 at startup, and i can't access it.  it seems  only thing i can access is the command prompt.  i also ran the diagnostic tests with no errors.

In addition, I tried  "boot your computer to safe mode with command prompt and fix MBR and Boot. On command prompt, Enter the commands: bootrec.exe /FIXMBR and bootrec.exe /FIXBOOT"  ePSA tests passed. Fixmbr and Fixboot both said "the operation completed successfully". After reboot, I am in the exact same spot with the error as posted previously.

Hi Mauri,

Thank you for the reply.

Good to know that you have 'Windows Re-installation Disk' and have performed the re-installation already.

You may use the 'Drivers DVD' to install the 'Network Drivers'; which should allow the notebook to connect to the internet. Your system was built with the following 'network devices':
1. RTL8111E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (For Wired Internet)
2. Intel 1030 Wireless-N (For Wireless Internet)

Please use the following steps to install drivers for both these devices using the 'Drivers CD':
An 'autorun wizard' will popup on the screen prompting to continue installing Dell resource CD onto the computer; continue with the installation.

Select the System Model > Operating System (Windows 7) > Topic (Drivers); please refer to the image below (Screenshots are only samples for reference; may not be applicable to the windows version installed on your notebook):

Locate and install the 'Network Drivers' one by one (RTL8111E Gigabit Ethernet Controller & Intel 1030 Wireless-N). Click and follow-through with the installation.

Installing the 'Network Drivers' will allow you to get connected to the internet. You may then follow the steps listed below to install all the remaining drivers in the given sequence:

When installing the drivers, I get stuck at "nVidia GeForce GT 525M driver: " I download and install, but get the message "Error. Cannot install NVIDIA....You must install Intel Driver First."  I have installed the drivers listed previously and inorder up to that point.  What am I missing?
