Blue Screen error

Question

I recently addded more memory to my Dell Dimension 8200, 80 GB HardDrive, Windows XP Home. Intel R Pentium R 4 CPU 1.90 GHZ 1.89 GHZ  768 MB of Ram 64 MB NVIDEA GEforce2 MX with TV out    I had 256 MB, added another 512 which brought it to 768MB, things were fine but lately when I boot up, I get a blue screen error saying:  that the MMC_2K.SYS file has a problem and windows has been shut down to prevent further damage to your computer. The technical info is   Stop 0x00000050 (0xB65D2000,0x00000000,0XF7Co2FAA, 0x00000000) MMC_2K.SYS Address F7C02FAA log base at F7BFF000, Date Stamp 3b95582a. I have to shut down and reboot several times before I can get inot Windows. Once I log on and get on my desktop something came up and said Found New Hardware HL-DT ST CD-RW GBE 8060B. I did not install new hardware so can someone tell me what this error means? My pc shows that the memory and everything was installed okay, my data shows I have the 768 of memory. Just don't know why it is saying it found new hardware and the blue screen error. Any help appreciated. Cher

You might be able to fix it by uninstalling CD writing software and reinstalling.

I was going to say that it might be due to a problem with the Hibernate file, and then suggest to diswable that and reenable it later on, since it writes its file based on amount of memory. Except mmc_2k.sys is apparently related to CD writing. You might still want to check out the C:\hiberfil.sys (a hidden system file) to see if its file size is similar to the new memory amount.

Thank you for responding. I just did a search looking for C:\hiberfil.sys . It did not find it and it said not looking in hidden files. How do I have my search look in hidden files?

First, it's possible it was never enabled to begin with. Not using it means no such file.   If you have used it before, or it is enabled, it'll be there.   Use the More Advanced Options item at the bottom of the search panel. It'll have a checkbox for hidden files there.
