Blue Screen of Death - Windows XP Repair Process Issues
On 10-17-2009 my system crashed for some reason and when I tried to turn my computer on all that showed up was the "blue screen of death". After trying everything possible, I used my Windows XP disk to do a repair/recovery. Since I have done the repair things are not working correctly. When I go into internet explorer the only page I can get to is my home page. I can type in a website in the search field of the homepage and then click on the website from there, but I cannot type the website into the address field....I receive the following error message: ."request lookup key not found in any active activation context". I had posted something in the virus forum and was referred to this forum.
I have also received the following errors when trying to access websites or when I try to shut down.
#1: "ngen.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetRequestedRuntimeVersion could not be located in the dynamic link library mscoree.dii.
#2: .NET Framework Initialization Error
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727\mscowrks.dll could not be loaded
Also, all of my icons have reset themselves to an extremely large size and I have not been able to reduce the size. Is this part of the issue with the system?
Any help you could provided would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Is the SP the Service Pack? My system shows service pack 2.
If this is not the correct information please let me know.
Thank you!

Yes Service Pack. Thats what I needed to know.
Do you know what SP level the XP cd is that you used to do the repair? It should say on the CD.

The disk was from Dell is says "Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with Update Rollup 2".
There is no mention of the Service Pack level on the cd.
Thank you!

"The procedure entry point GetRequestedRuntimeVersion could not be located in the dynamic link library mscoree.dii."
This usually means it is the wrong version of the DLL, I would consider reinstalling Service Pack 2, then do a windows update to get the rest of the updates available.

Does this mean that I need to completely reload my operating system?

Since I am downloading for an individual computer do I click on the link for "windows update" for an individual computer? Also, are there any risks to my system or to any saved data I may have? Is this going to override the current operating system?
Thank you, again!

Just click the "Download" button on the blue bar, save it to a folder of choice, when the download is done, execute the file to install Service Pack 2.
" Also, are there any risks to my system or to any saved data I may have?"
There is always risk doing anythin on a PC, that is why you should always have important data backed up to another place such as CD/DVD, external usb drive, ect.
"Is this going to override the current operating system?"
Not sure what you mean by "override".
