Bluetooth problems with D620

hi

I'm having problems getting Bluetooth working on a Latitude D620.
I installed a driver (dated 2007-01-26) for the Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth internal module found on Dell's support site. During the installation i get the following message:

"Found new hardware

Windows needs to install driver softwre for your Bluetooth peripheral device"

and then

"Found new hardware - Bluetooth peripheral device

Insert the disc that came with your Bluetooth device.

If you have the disc that came with your device, insert it now. Windows will automatically search the disc for driver software."

This feels a bit odd since I'm asked to install Bluetooth driver software during the installation of Bluetooth driver software.

Any ideas on what's going on and how to get Bluetooth working on Vista?

Hi!

Basically, you need to get the driver from support.dell.com. If you decide to ignore the message, the BT will work in a basic mode with only a few features working. Then you go to Support Web-site and choose Drivers and Downloads, find your system, your OS, and download the driver. When you run Dell Driver Installation file, Windows will finish installing the rest of the drivers required and "Unknown Peripheral Device" will become known - those are most likely Digital Audio, BT Modem, or a feature of the sort that your BT supports.

I hope this helps.

Eugene

Hi,

thanks for the reply.

I've installed the following drivers/software found on Dell's support site for my laptop model:

  • Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Module
  • Intel Mobile Chipset
  • Conexant D110, HDA, MDC, v.92,modem
  • Dell Latitude D620 System BIOS
  • Dell Notebook System Software

Is there any other drivers/software that could be relevant here?

Here's the info Device manager gives related to Bluetooth:

  • Bluetooth Radios
    Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module
    Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator
  • Modems
Conexant HDA D110 MDC V.92 Modem
Standard Modem over Bluetooth link #3
  • Network adapters
Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) #4
Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) #4
  • Portable Devices
    NOKIA N80
  • Ports (COM & LPT)
    Communications Port (COM1)

Is there something else I should be seeing in the list?

None of the items above have warning signs next to them so apparently Windows thinks they're all working properly.

Hi!

Well, if it says this, then you're all set and ready to go. Mine says the same thing. If you have a Bluetooth Cell Phone, try pairing it with your computer. Normally, you will have COM ports, Digital Audio, Bluetooth Modem installed after you pair those. If they install well, then all your drivers are there and there's nothing else you need to do.

I had, and basically still have, BT 355 2.0+EDR. When I installed the card without Dell Drivers, BT was working on a basic level, but couldn't install Audio and Modem drivers when I paired my cell phone with computer. Then I installed Dell driver and everything was installed and worked well.

Although I was happy with BT 355, I then discovered that after I restart the computer, Vista is saying that "the card may be disconnected" and I needed to disable and reenable card to get it back to work. Therefore, I called Dell and asked them to send me BT 350, an older version that originally ships with Latitude computers. Although I didn't order it with Inspiron E1705, they agreed to send me the 350 type. I had a previous experience with it and I know that 350 is a lot more stable than 355. I think it is more or less a driver issue, but I don't want to have the trouble with it at all. Are you overall satisfied with your 350 card? Is it working well with all your devices? I am thinking of buying a Logitech BT Mouse - will it be working well with 350 card?

I hope this helps!
Best wishes,

Eugene

Hi,

thanks Eugene.

I've only been infrequently using my laptop with just my mobile phone over BT but I don't have any specific complaints about it.

I'm still having some connectivity problems but it would appear they may not be directly related to Windows anymore as I don't seem to be getting messages about missing drivers.

I've a Nokia N80 phone that I'm using with the laptop. I'm able to access the phone's Address book and Calendar from the laptop over BT but Internet connections fail. This could be an issue with the Nokia PC Suite software that I'm using on the laptop.

Windows Control panel lists the BT modem in "Phone and Modem Options" like this:
"Standard Modem over Bluetooth link #3    COM6"

So, it seems everything is ok from Windows' point of view.

The Nokia PC Suite still says "No modem found!" when I try to connect to the Internet.

No Events found!
