Remove and reseat the RAM module(s), drive bay device(s) and hard drive, and see if that fixes things. If not, see your User Guide for instructions on running the Dell Diagnostics to check the rest of the hardware.
Thanks Flooby. I tried all of you suggestions in regard to reseating the components. Cannot access the computer at all now. Not even the boot menu. It just goes to the black screen with the blinking curser. Do not have user guide for this computer. Can diagnostics be run in this condition?
Dell Diagnostics downloads The floppy drive version (CD110210.exe) seems to be the most reliable. You'll need 5 blank floppy diskettes. Detailed instructions at the download site. You
should be able to boot to the Diags, but you may have to get creative, as it sounds like you have a component failure. If two RAM modules are installed, try booting with one at a time, and see if that helps. You may also have to remove/reseat the hard drive one more time.
Bear in mind that if all else fails, you can contact Support by phone and make arrangements to have the notebook shipped to a service facility on a time and materials ("Out of warranty") basis. They'll give you an estimate of the cost before they make the necessary repairs.
Thanks Flooby. I truly appreciate your time and effort in regard to my problem. I will follow your suggestions and hope for the best. I am also beginning to think that I may be experiencing a component failure of some type. I may have to send it away for repair. Thanks Again. Take care!
