reset bios to defaults. (f2 on dell screen then Alt F in setup then esc .. save exit.) sounds liek a corrupt operatign system. also unplug usb devices besides keyboard and mouse (then reset factory defaults in setup aka bios)
Thanks for the advice. Went into bios and saw that usb devices set at 'on' factory default. Not sure about 'alt f' I don't understand ........unplugged the usb key/mouse and other usb wireless, etc., then rebooted. Not working in bios as before. I was able to be able to boot after a 'repair/install' of xp. Appreciate you helping out.........just not able to use usb key/mou in bios.......have to borrow wireless k/m from other pc. One final thing have noticed that 'keyboard error' appears when strike any key at 'boot cd startup' when doing the repair/install and haven't reset that boot sequence yet. The keyboard does work in spite of message ....only in windows not bios. Thanks again.
You should enable
" Legacy support for USB " in the BIOS. This will allow the system to see and use the keyboard and mouse even before the system is booted.
