Booting Up Problem

I just starting having a problem booting up Windows XP Professional. When I do, it comes up on a black screen with the Dell logo, and shows a listing of what's on my computer starting with an Intel copyright, listing the Dell Dimention 4100, the Bios version (I just updated it), the system Ram, keyboard, mouse, disk, CD drives, and then it ends with:

 "press to resume"

When I do, it starts up windows XP no problem.

I think this started after sp2 was installed but not sure. I can't think of anything else that has changed. It's very annoying and I'd like to get rid of it.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

There are many possible causes of this problem, none of which involve SP2.  There are hundreds of messages on these forums that discuss the problem and the solution ranges from removing and reinserting all PCI cards to completely replacing the hard drive.  A fairly good summary of the problem can be found in the following thread (notice that it goes on for about 4 pages):

Thank you Steve.. nice to know I'm not alone in this and it wasn't the SP2.
