C:\Explorer.exe is not a valid MS-DOS program File. It may be damaged????? Help me I havent a clue

When I try to log onto Windows ME I get the above response and if I click on OK I then get a blank blue screen...I cannot load Windows desktop

What is wrong and how do I fix it???

PC won't start in Safe Mode so I can't try to fix anything.

Have run Scanreg/restore in Dos but it doesnt restore back to previous time before I got started to get this message.

Any tips to help me getting my pc running again would be great. Having to use my friend's for now

Cheers LB UK

This is not good!! EXPLORER.EXE is normally located in C:\WINDOWS.

What you may have is either a code red or subseven Trojan/virus, so I would suggest you scan for these with your AV software. If you don't have AV software, search Google for online virus-scanning sites and run a scan from any of them.

Here's a good online antivirus site and free antivirus program you can download.

Go to http://www.housecall.antivirus.com for online scaning

And go to http://www.grisoft.com and get the FREE AVG anti-virus progam
it'll give you free virus definitions to keep the bad stuff off your system

Good luck.
