CD Writing Wizard will not Write a CD

I uninstalled roxio easy Cd creator and now my windows CD wizard tells me "can not complete the cd writing wizard" I can use any of my other numerous cd burning software programs to burn a data or music cd but i can not use the windows application. it tells me Cd software developed under lisene from roxio. i do not know what is the problem and i have spent so many hours looking for a fix and cant get the right software of program to find the problem although i have resolved a few other problems in the mean time i just cant seem to find the right answer for this. i know it has to be simple because the Cd drive burns CD's just not in windows. what can i do ?

Have you already tried removing the drive from Device Manager, reboot and let Windows reinstall the drive?

Apparently how or what you uninstalled with Roxio affected theWindows CD burning.  The built in CD burning was supplied to Microsoft by Roxio and the reason you get the message.

You may have to do an sfc /scannow on your Windows XP OS to restore any missing or corrupted Windows XP files (you will need your Windows CD for this).

Another option, again depending on how you uninstalled Roxio, is to use the Windows XP "System Restore" and restore the PC to a date/time prior to uninstalling Roxio and see if that fixes the Windows CD burning.

how do i do this sfc/scan now operation. is this the system compatibility feature. with my system it is now a service pack 2 windows and i started with service pack one the disk i have will sometimes tell me unable to process because the disk is older than the present system configuration. i some how removed the restore files because it will not allow me to go back before the month of april to find a restore date so i can not do the restore function.

To run          sfc /scannow     (note the space after sfc), insert the xp  o.s. disk and when it appears, close it. Then > start, 'run',  type sfc /scannow in the box and hit enter. It will do the rest.

ran the sfc program and it did not fix the Cd wizard problem it did take a while to scan though i rebooted the syatem and still nothing I wonder why windows uses roxio software and dosent support it enough that i can find a fix for such a relavant and common device. what can i do i am really at a loss here for thoughts on different avenues to approach for this problem. removed it from the device manager and reinstalled it, ran so many registry cleaners and spyware programs i lost count, ran the system check program from dell, ran the driver reset tool and the same nothing. now what ?

I'm not at my desk where I keep my notes but see if you can use what is called "the last known good configuration" utility that comes with xp.
