CPU usage always at 100%

Question

My XP desktop with service pack 1 has begun running sluggishly and occasionally hangs. Task manager shows its CPU usage constantly at 100%, even when no applications are running, and 44 or more processes running. What can be done to remedy this?

try running msconfig> startup tab, disable all except your antivirus software, reboot and try to see if the prob still occurs... it might be your startup programs running in the background...

you should be able to see in the task manager what program is hanging, causing the processor to run at 100%.
