Can someone please help me remove this garbage: sprtcmd.exe
I have a Dell Dimension 3100 and XP Home Edition
I recently downloaded Windows Install Clean Up and removed the Dell Support Center.
However the only area it refuses to delete is in the Program Files stating that it cannot delete libeay32.dll
I was thinking of maybe manually removing this Dell Support Center in the registry.
The point behind all of this is that in the past few days every time I shut down the PC I get the ghastly sprtcmd.exe that I want to delete off the PC.

Thank you so much for the prompt reply.
Can you please provide me the link and/or page where the dell product support download is? I'm having trouble finding this.
Also when I reinstall it, I am quessing that it will be reinstalled atop what is left in Program Files. I have in Program Files the Dell Support Center residue that you speak of since the Windows Install Clean Up did half the job.
Thanks.

"I recently downloaded Windows Install Clean Up and removed the Dell Support Center."
That tool does not remove the program, but it does remove the uninstaller for the program, that is why you cannot remove it now.
Re-install the Dell program , then use add/remove programs list to remove it. If you still get the error that it is being used by another process, open task manager (processes tab) and end task "sprtcmd.exe", then try uninstalling it again.

Now that I have thought about it, you will need to know what version is currently installed to do it that way, and older versions may not be available anymore. Installing a different version will complicate things.
I suggest using system restore in XP to restore the system to a date just before the update you installed on the 2nd of October. Then try uninstalling it in add/remove, ending the task first if necessary.

Back from errand run and continue to work on troubleshooting that sprtcdm.exe problem and at the midnight mark get a breakthrough after someone replies to a help posting at dell forum. He told me that the Windows Install Clean Up only removed the Uninstall aspect of Dell Support Center and so I would need to reinstall the download then uninstall it. And it worked! It erased the Dell Support Center residue left stuck in Program Files I was unable to delete. Now PC when shut down closes without that sprtcdm.exe box and closes even much faster.
Immediatley after your first email I did go to Dell and download the Dell Support Center. And their box where it is supposed to load freezes, something is wrong with their software. Nevertheless went into the Add/Remove and it uninstalled everyhting like a charm. So seesm to have resolved issue and the PC is working fine, faster actually.
Thanks again.
