Can't install MS security downloads

I have a Dimension 3000, Windows XP SP2,   I assigned myself a user password and when I shut down the computer, it would not boot up at startup. It would only say "your personal settings are loading", I would wait maybe 10 minutes and nothing would happen.  Finally I shut off the power to the computer and used the Dell OS Recovery Utility CD to boot he computer and remove the password in the User Accounts.

Now , I have 76 MS Security updates that I have  down loaded, but they will not install.  Whenever I try to install them, I get an error msg saying they did not install.    I have Norton Internet Security 2007 installed but that doesn't seem to be the problem.  Any help would be appreciated as I feel my computer is open to any malicious programs out there.

Jonsitar,

What reason is given for the failure to install the updates?

I finally found a fix at the above site.  I downloaded the freeware and all 76 updates were installed.
I never could find the reason nor was there an error code given as to why the updates would not install.  The window just said the updates failed to install.  Apparently other people have been having this problem with XP for no apparent reason.  I logged onto the MS trouble shooting site and was steered to the Dial-a-fix site.  Just hit it lucky this time.

Jonsitar,

Thanks for posting back with resolution to your problem.  As you noted, I've seen other posts with same problem.  Maybe this will work for them also.  Will pass it to them.
