Can't install SP2 on Dell Inspiron 9400 Windows XP Pro...

I have a copy of Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 1. I just formated my laptop and installed the os. Now whenever I try to install SP2, the update.exe gets stuck at 50% (Dual Core) and it won't respond.
I noticed that this happens when the thing says "Checking product key", but this is an original cd on a Dell computer, I don't see the problem.

Can someone help me out here?

What is SP1 doing on a Dual Core machine?  Most of the problems regarding upgrades to SP2 are related to existing spyware.  You might be better off slipstreaming the update.

Umm dude, the XP Pro cd that came with the Dell has SP1 on it already. Anyways I fixed the problem, I found this; http://forums.pcpitstop.com/lofiversion/index.php/t123361.html

Doing what the guy said allowed me install SP2.

LOL Core 2 is out now, replacing the Core 1 architecture.
Core Duo T2400 1833 MHz 2048 January 5, 2006.
Sorry if I offended you by my tone but how can you be a platinum member and not know anything about the core 1's when the core 2' just came out for laptops which you can get now.

BTW thanks for your help. :)

I am familiar with with the products I work with on an everyday basis, so pardon me if I can not afford to buy the latest technology as soon as it hits the street.  I guess I am more surprised that people are still running SP1 especially since SP2 has been out three years.

Care to discuss running a domain in a virtual enviroment?  BTW, I have an E1705 that will be here most any day now so maybe I will finally begin to earn the Platinum status.

I'm just not into processors, not my thing.  Yes I got the nVidia card wtiht 256 of dedicated RAM.  I just hope this thing can hold up to harsh environments.

No thanks, I'm not into networking. :)
Also the core duo's have been out for almost a year now. I read on the internet and tech websites all the time so maybe I'm just ahead of the tech curve.
The CD I got from Dell came with SP1 slipstreamed onto the CD. I didn't want to bother slipstreaming SP2 into the Dell cd when I can just download SP2 and install it, and I already had SP2 downloaded onto a cd so I was ready to go.

And congrats on the purchase, if you got the 7900 GTX Go than that is an awesome purchase. If not, it's still a good laptop. :)

I just ordered an E1705 yesterday.  I can't wait to get it.  It's time for me to give this I8600 to my wife.  She has been using a I8000 PIII 750MHz computer for a while now.

Maybe I will give that one to the kids.
