Can't ipconfig or ping...please help!!

Just when I thought the darned machine was running perfectly.........it now seems that whenever I try to run a network command (for example, ipconfig, a ping, or a tracert) the window appears and then immediately disappears from my screen.

Any idea what's causing this?  I can run other commands such as msconfig.

Thank you for your help.

Thank you so very much.  I had made a support phonecall to my exchange service provider because my outlook wasn't staying online --- and it was he who told me to put ipconfig into the run field!!!  When I told him the window kept disappearing, he said it was a problem with my windows installation!!!!

THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH.  You saved me MUCH angst.

That is what it is programmed to do when you run these types of commands from the run line. The reason programs such as " msconfig " work this way is because they open their own program window. Command line functions are Not Windowed programs and do not create their own window and when the command is completed it goes away. Just like it should. It is completing the command from the run line, but when the command is completed the window closes so you will never see the results.

This is how you should do command line calls:

First open a Command Window:
In the " Run " input section type in " cmd " or " command " without the quotes and press enter. This will open a command prompt window.

Inside the command prompt window; type the command that you desire " ipconfig " whatever and press the enter key. The window will then remain open so you can see the results.

Most of these people don't know squat about much. Just like most peoples answer when they have PC problems is " It must be a Virus ". You need to reinstall the OS.

Glad I could help.
