Try using system restore to try to go back to a time when your screensaver was working. If that does not work, download HijackThis, run it and post a log in the HijackThis forum for people to take a look at.
Thanks--I never knew you could get @ it from there (I always went thru the control panel via the blue shaded area of the start menu, which is not responding).
Several attermpts to do a system restore failed: It gets to about 75% then chokes, eventually finishes, restarts and I get the message indicating that the system could not be restored to that particular date (I tried about 5 different dates over the past month).

I planned to do a system restore, but is there any way I can get to it without getting @ the control panel?
