Cannot launch Registry Editor

I am trying to resolve a problem with being unable to access some websites, like Symantec and Kodak File Share...In doing so I need to get to the Registry Editor, however after typing regedit.exe through the command prompt the registry editor diplsays for no more than 3 seconds and then disappears - has anyone got any ideas as to what is going on ?

Thanks

ptsdls,

Click the link below, Fixes for Windows XP, click the drop down Menu and scroll down to Repair Reg Editor.

Download and run. Your Virus software may warn you about running it. It is safe.

ptsdls,

If dave5's fix doesn't correct the problem and if Task Manager and Msconfig exhibit the same behavior, see the information here.

You can also download free Tweak UI from microsoft.com. Click Repair in left pane and select Regedit from the drop-down list on the right.

Lots of other useful things available in Tweak UI, so worth it even if you get Regedit fixed using suggestions from the other members.
