Changing the default photo editor

I would like to configure my computer so that IfranView, and not MS
Paint, is my default photo editor.  Just to be clear, I'm not referring to the default photo viewer.  That is currently the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.  I'm satified with that.

Hi Lawnmowerguy,

I must firstly agree with you changing your default editor - mspaint is not the best :). I only know of the long way of doing this which is changing each individual extension which includes every variation of JPG, JPEG, JPE etc...

Open up My Computer and in the menu bar choose Tools then click Folder Options...
Once the new window has opened change the tab to File Types
Underneath Registered File Types look for the extension of the file that you need to change then single click on it.
Click Advanced at the bottom of the dialog

In the center of the new dialog under 'Actions:' is a basic list of all the options in a context menu (right click) of that file type. We need to add the Action 'Edit' (if it is there already click it and then select 'Edit...')
Click 'New...' and type in the first textbox '&Edit' (the '&' is used for specifying the keyboard shortcut)
Click the 'Browse...' button and navigate and select the executable for InfranView.
Then Click Ok Twice.
The file extension should now open with the InfranView.
Next we just need to repeat the above steps for all the extensions that you may want to edit.

If you have any troubles following this feel free to reply, i am only 15 and not yet the best tutorial writer :)

Good Luck!
