Character Map Not Working
I have a Latitude D630 laptop running Windows XP Professional, SP2. When I open the Character Map and try to select a symbol (or any character), nothing happens. If I double click on the character, the "character to copy" box at the bottom of the window shows an exclamation point, regardless of which character I click on. I have tried different fonts with the same result. I have also tried using the "insert symbol" command from within MS Word and Publisher and had the same result.

You could try uninstalling it, restart, then reinstall it.
Control panel/Add remove software. In the left list click on Add/remove Windows components.
when the list of components shows, highlight Accessories and Utilities, click details; Highlight Accessories click details. uncheck the box next to Character map. Click OK, next, etc. to complete the uninstall.
To reinstall do the same, but check the box next to character map.
Have you added any fonts lately?
