Clean install XP home

I am trying to clean install XP home and I am able to create the new partition and format the drive; however, when I get to 99% of the files being copied, I ger an error message "Set up cannot copy the file wmvds32.ax".  I have cleaned the CD drive and the disk itself, but I always stop at this part of the installation.  The original 20 gig hard drive had to be replaced last year and now there is a 120 gig HD installed along with a CD-RW drive.  The CD drive I am attempting to use is the original drive that came with the computer.
Thanks.

Can you try to manually copy that file to see if the CD is bad? If the CD is bad, then you might be stuck (try to borrow a good one maybe).

Make sure you booted to the xp cd to do the format and installation. The cd must be in the master cd drive, usually the upper drive or the one that's on the end connector of the cable. http://www.djdenham.com/Install%20Procedures.htm#Install

You might try copying the CD to a new blank. If there is an error reading a file, a full Windows system may be able to recover it while the stripped down system running Setup cannot.

This worked for me with some Adobe software (which was damaged in a flood.)

Check your CD with CDCheck . It's free for personal use.
