Computer / Printer Conflict ?
At this point I am so frustrated with Dell and I have had several Dell computers and have had many friends buy Dells at my suggestion. So, with that said here's the problem and this is not a new problem.
My Dell 926 AIO printer works fine when you copy, scan, etc. However, when you send it a print command from the Dell computer using Vista it may or may not print. When it does not which is often, the document gets stuck in the queue and the only way to get it out is to go to the spooler, stop it, restart it, hope for the best, or unplug the computer from printer, electrical, etc., or restart the computer.
I have talked to the people at the Printer group and they all want to try the same things over and over and over and of course they never work. And as it has happened on other occasions, today's guru suggested that the printer is okay (I agree since it will perform other functions) and that I should... drum roll please... I'm sure you have heard it... uninstall the Operating System and reinstall. This I'm not ready to do for a lousy printer. Another suggestion he had was to disable the Firewall when printing. I'm not a computer expert by any means but this seems a little odd. Let's say you are printing, as I was this morning, one copy of a document, change the document, print it again, change, print it again, etc., etc... why would the Firewall not conflict with all of them instead of just one or two or three...
So guys and gals... what else could I try. Advice appreciated in advance.

Assuming you got the computer and the printer at the same time, did the printer work properly at the beginning?
If the problem developed recently did it start after installing a new program?
I think it is important to try the printer on another computer.

Checking DELL Technical Support's Drivers and Downloads for the 926 AIO printer (when connected to a computer running Windows Vista-32 bit) I found the following:
Dell - Patch / Upgrade 9/7/2007
Dell - Firmware 1/6/2008
Are you up to date with these?

Well, tried it on another computer. Although some print pages did in fact stick in the queue I was able to clear them by just cancelling that particular document in the queue... can't do that on the subject computer. I did get a message about 10 times... error indicating a close down... dlcxpswx.exe... which I assume is the printer. Error reports sent to MS but which trash can they went in who knows.
Came back to my computer, rehooked the printer and second document I tried which was from Notepad failed and is now stuck in the queue and will not move and I cannot print.
So, that's the latest. I'm going to try to call Dell again after lunch and talk to someone other than the printer group.

Well thanks but not sure about the admirable part... I get rather hot when talking to these people who want me to do the same thing some other person asked me to do the day before or day before that, etc., etc. Oh well.
Anyway, just printed a few documents but when I tried to print from Notepad or Wordpad the program quit so I had to go to the spooler, stop, restart, etc.,etc. Thought this may be helpful to you or anyone else following this thread.
I'll post again after I talk to Rangoon or Manila or Bangkok or whatever.

Well, well guys and gals...
After pretty much demanding yesterday that I not be connected again to the Printer Group and assured by the supervisor that I would not be, guess who I was connected to by the frustrating DELL system... yep, another person in the Printer Group. Her name was, of all things, Honey. Filipino, Indian or whatever but a good command of the English language thank goodness.
Guess what she did. Yep, same thing everyone else has done so another hour+ of my time wasted and probably more if I had not told her that 5 PM was it. She did all this and seemed amazed when the printer would not print. I guess they all think that their work-arounds haven't been tried even though you tell them they have.
Bottom line is they are going to send me a new (refurbished) printer. I would almost bet anyone on this forum $100 that I will have the same problem. I really don't like the idea of them sending me a refurbished printer but I'm going to give it a whirl. We shall see.
My email is available and if anyone that may read this can give me a couple of numbers for Dell that are otherwise unavailable or if you know someone at Dell that could call me and believe me they have the number, I would appreciate it.
Thought I would never, ever say this but I'm really thinking seriously about Apple.

That's Great!! And just how does one tell the difference between the two? Are they labeled? Are they different shapes? Do you per chance work for Dell? Thanks...
