Connect 2 computers in different locations
I have a Dell Dimension 3000 running win xp/pro, ie8. My friend has a Dell Dimension 2400 running win xp home, ie8. I was browsing on line and found that I must have netbeui and tcp/ip protocols installed. At the microsoft website it said to install (from my xp pro cd) netbeui from the valueadd folder. Well, I went to that folder and found 3 things. one was to be copied in %systemroot%\system 32\drivers folder, another was to be copied to %systemroot%/inf hidden folder. I could not find this folder, but I right clicked it and and option was install, so I choose it, but it did not install. Also futher in the MS website (id no. 301041) another article was listed (306059) saying that netbeui is unavailable in windows xp. After all that, is there a way to connect these two computers? Thanks.

There is a camera system there that we want to be able to access at home, and for some reason that neither zmoda or my server can figure out why no outgoing port is available for remote access. So if I can connect the two computers, then I can view the cameras on my 3000. The computer connected to the camera, the 2400 can access a website and view the cameras only right there. This does no good as we already have the cameras on another monitor. I do not want to file share, unless that is the only way to go. Suggestions?

ieee488, Zmodo is a security camera system. There are 4 cameras watching the property. When I am there I can watch what is going on. I want to be able to watch while I am home. So somehow I want to connect these two computers.

Honestly, Zmodo needs to help you with this. If they can't, then you need to find someone who can or find another system that works.
http://www.zmodo.net/faq/
These security cameras hook up to a DVR.
For remote monitoring, you need to follow these instructions --> http://www.zmodo.net/faq/index.php/en/tech-support/dvr-support/h9004uv/remote-network-setup

ieee488, Ok, I will get back with ZMODO. I spent an hour and 1/2 on a conference call with my server and zmodo and myself while we were trying to do this remote. Static or Dynamic question never came up, but I will bring this up next time. Thank you for your assistance.

Liz1954,
Please give the model Zmodo DVR that you are using. Also, please give the router's make and model. Also, how is the PC at the camera site connected to the Internet; i.e., is it DSL, Cable or dial-up?
According to Zmodo, their DVRs can be accessed directly using www.dyndns.org. No need for a static IP at the camera site.
