Copy a DVD

I have a DVD enabled Inspiron 6000, but it would seem not the software to copy a DVD. I am not in breach of copyright here as it is for part of my work and would like to copy a DVD that has been provided to me for this purpose. What do I need to do?

You need software to burn or copy a DVD. Some are free, but better ones such as Nero you will
have to pay for. Some are trial versions.

Do you actually have a DVD "burner" or just a DVD ROM? which will only read DVD's?

If you got the PC with a DVD burner you will have software for it - either Sonic or Roxio.  If you only have a DVD-ROM then no burner software would have been provided with the PC.

If you do have software for copying CD's, try that as many CD copying programs will also copy DVD's that are not copy protected.

Dear Fireberd,

I have Sonic. My computer informations says I have DVD/CD RW ... that means a burner doesn't it? When I put a blank dvd in the drive on Sonic the message keeps coming up "please insert a blank or rewritable dvd into the HD-DT-ST CD-R/W (D:) drive" It doesn't seem to be reading the fact that there is one there!
