Corel Word Perfect and Microsoft Word

Hi,
I have a Dell XP. It came with Corel Word Perfect. I installed Microsoft Word. When I open Microsoft Word and create a document and then save it on my computer, the computer automatically turns it into a Corel Word Perfect Document. How do I turn that feature off?

You are given the opportunity to save it as various file formats on the bottom of the save box, but are you saying even if you check MS Word the next time you try to save a new document it is back to WordPerfect?  If so, go to tools, options, save, and change the default file to MS Word

Hello,

I will try that. I was just sort of perplexed because here at my office I have both Word Perfect and Microsoft Word installed. When I create a document and save it, I do not have to indicate in what format I want it save in as the program I was working in automatically saved it in that format. Does that make sense?

But at home, when I clicked on my Microsoft Word icon on the desktop and get a page to work on and then finish working on it and save it to my computer, it automatically turns it into a Word Perfect document. Did dell set the settings that way on purpose. The Dell originally came with Corel Word Perfect. I downloade Microsoft Word the other day. Let me know. But I will try your first suggestion.

James Gribble,

Open Word and go to Tools|Options|Save tab. Change the listing in "Default format" to "Word Document (*.doc)."
