DOS Audio Drivers for Onboard Sound?
Hi,
I have a Dell Precision WorkStation 420
P3,CU,733/133,256K,SLOT1
I've installed a DOS 6.22 partition and can successfully boot to it and run my old games with full true DOS compatibility ;-)
However, there is no sound and I can't find any compatible drivers for the onboard sound. In fact, I have no idea what the chipset for the onboard sound is or any other details.
Does anyone know the location of any drivers suggest that I can run to get the soundcard to initialise on startup?
Thanks
Rolf

Rolf,
Thank you for visiting the Dell Community Forum.
It is very likely that no DOS drivers will exist for a newer audio chipset like this as most manufacturers are no longer producing DOS drivers for new hardware. If you have not already done so, you may want to post your message in the Precision WorkStation - Audio Forum, as you may be more likely to get responses to driver questions in that Forum; maybe someone will have more information on this there.

Your best chance, IMHO, is to install a fully DOS compatible operating system(windows98se would be your best choice).
Then use the windows sound drivers through the dos VM. It is likely since the card is integrated(in other words garbage) that legacy drivers don't exist for it. good luck.
