Dell Dimension 2400 Desktop PC

Question

Hello People......last week I reinstalled the XP operating system with the reinstallation disk that Dell sent to me. I had no issues installing XP, but I did have trouble getting drivers (chipset, ethernet, integrated graphics, etc) installed.......eventually I did get it up and running, the main issue was that the oem XP os came with SP2, so I had to get service pack 3 installed....to make it quick, I had to get the drivers installed so that I could get online > but couldn't get online using the Dimension 2400 > so I went and downloaded the correct drivers from the Dell web site using a different desktop then putting the downloaded drivers onto a thumb drive....then brought those drivers over to the 2400 and got it going..............everything is going great, it was just time consuming!     OK, my question: at one point last week when I couldn't get online to get the SP3, windows updates, etc., I wondered this; could I wipe the hard drive (or get a new one) and reinstall a different Windows XP Home Edition full version onto that motherboard, not with the Dell OS reinstallation disk but a different Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition full version disk? I understand the OS that came with the 2400 would 'die' as soon as I installed a different OS.......would there be any problems down the line with the motherboard and OS? THANX!!!!   Jimmy40

Hi

Using the disc which you have, you can go ahead and reinstall the operating system there won’t be any issues with the motherboard.

Yes. Reinstall using the generic Windows disc and its product key, but do not activate. When finished, use the Microsoft product key switcher utility to activate the install using your Dell product key.
