Dell Inspiron 1525 - How to Restore Computer to When I Originally Bought it ......................
I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop, which I bought about 3 years ago. When I turned it on recently it said it couldn't start because the registry filed was corrupt. I now just want to fix this problem and restore my laptop to how it was when I bought it - I dont mind wiping all the data on my computer. I've had a look online and I've seen people mention using Advanced Boot Options to do this. But the 'Repair my Computer' option does not appear. I had a CD with my laptop, which I was going to use to fix the registry file error. However I cant find this CD and was wondering if there is a CD which can fix this problem and completely restore my laptop. If so where can i purchace one from ?????? Any help will be very much appreciated! ;) thanks!

Have you tried the "last known good configuration" option. Press F8 BEFORE Windows starts and you will get a menu that includes Safe Mode, and the Last Known Good Configuration. Try that and see if it will startup. If not, try it with Safe Mode and if it will work in Safe Mode, use the System Restore function and restore the PC back to a date PRIOR to the problem. Depending on what the registry problem is one of these two should be able to get it going.
If not, the Dell PC Restore, if it's still on your hard drive and not corrupted will reinstall. If your PC came with Windows XP, CTRL/F11 at power on (Power On Self Test) will access the Dell PC Restore. If your PC came with Vista, F8 at power on will access the Dell PC Restore.
If you do not have the recovery partition, You will need to get the discs and with the Dell XP disc you may be able to do a "Repair" and if not then it will take a complete reinstall (including reformatting the hard drive).
If you are in the US, you can request a set of discs from Dell HERE If you are not in the US, you will have to contact Dell for your area.
And THIS is the reinstall instructions for both PC Restore and Manual Reinstall.
