Dell Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant Unhandled Exception error
I have recently installed a Dell branded Windows 7 upgrade to Vista using the Dell Upgrade Assistant disc supplied with it.
The Upgrade Assistant ran perfectly well prior to the main installtion - advising that it would remove FastAccess (facial recognition software) and then re-install it after the upgrade. The Windows 7upgrade then installed successfully with no notable hiccups. When the Windows Upgrade assistant reappeared to install temporarily removed software it returned an unhandled exception error before it is able to complete its tasks. FastAccesswhich was removed by the upgrade assistant prior to Windows 7 installation is not re-installed.
Like other posts - the Upgrade Assistant returns every time I boot up. It offers to install updated versions of software that were removed (presumably including FastAccess). If I press continue I get the following error message.
"Microsoft.NET Framework
Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object." [I have included the detailed error log at the end of this question]
If I press "Quit" it exits and does not complete the process. If I press "Continue" the program hangs and has to be closed with Task Manager.
There appear to be quite a few suggestions on how to make the Assistant disappear but I would like to get it to finish re-installing the removed files including FastAccess.
Can anyone help?

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Hi there
I have a friend who is getting exactly the same error message on their Dell. Did you find an answer to this problem? I have done some researxch on the net but this is the only reference to this error I can find.

I have managed to get rid of the assistant but never got it to reinstall removed files. I used the method outlined in the 5 Jan post here http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/thread/973e4d56-2db9-4c5e-8dcf-45408411621d .
Dell were unbelievably unhelpful - so much so that we have already changed suppliers for all new PCs.
Everything runs fine ok although Windows 7 seems to be playing havoc with my internet connection - and from the number of threads about it this appears to be a fairly common problem. I also get more regular crashes than I ever did with Vista.
Good luck!
