Dell 'mouse suite' software doesn't work with premium mouse

I have a dell premium mouse, which came with my Dell Precision laptop, I really want to customise the 2 additional side buttons but cannot. The mouse works fine without the Dell 'mouse suite' software installed but the 2 side buttons default to commands 'back' & 'forward', not what I want. However, whenever I install the Dell 'mouse suite' software, the scroll wheel/middle button no longer functions correctly, but I can customise the 2 side buttons. The scroll wheel no longer scrolls properly in all applications such as outlook, and if stops working altogether in Pro-E CAD software. Uninstall the 'mouse suite' software and the wheel starts working again. I've tried customising the scroll wheel in the 'mouse suite' software to get it to work, but with no success. The Dell 'mouse suite' software seems not to function correctly, is there anyway to set this mouse up to emulate a Logitech mouse etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Those are probably re branded logitech , try poking around the Logitech site for a similar product and try their software.

I have this same exact issue on an Optiplex 745.  Mouse software installation disables scrolling in all MS Office applications, but works on IE7.0.  Remove the software and the buttons work, but cannot be customized.  Anyone find a fix??

I have the same problem on Optiplex 745:  I uninstalled the Dell Mouse Suite software, and then removed the 'Premium Tilt Wheel (HID)' device driver, which no longer works.  When the computer re-boots the device driver is replaced with 'HID-compliant mouse', which works without the Wheel tilt functionality.

As suggested by others, I have tried (to no avail):

MS Intellipoint 6.1 (selecting an 'Intellimouse explorer 4.0' mouse) - mouse continues to work without the Wheel tilt.  Although the software displays all the mouse settings, changing them doesn't seem to make any difference.

Logitech Setpoint 3.3 - mouse continues to work without the Wheel tilt, but software doesn't show any mouse settings whatsoever.

I contacted Dell Tech Support - I just got a standard automated reply to try the forums.
Surely they know they are shipping a product which doesn't work as intended?!  MS Office 2007 isn't at all useable with the Dell Mouse Suite software installed.

Not sure which operating system you are using, but there was a release in March 2007 for the scrolling issue and then in July 2007 a whole new version for compatibility with Office 2007.  I never installed it as I became accustomed to the mouse features without the mouse suite software, but nevertheless, here is the link.  I am not 100% certain if it is also for Vista, but it is the latest version listed on Dell for all operating systems:

I did actually install the latest 'mouse suite' software in July 2007, on Windows XP Pro OS.  http://ftp.us.dell.com/input/R152683.EXE

(Help displays the following version info: Control Centre Version 2.50.025, Driver Version 2.50.023)

This latest release does appear to have fixed the MS Office 2007 issues.  However, I use AutoCAD:
The Premium Mouse software prevents the scroll button working for Zoom & Pan functions within AutoCAD 2008 (LT 2008, and DWG Trueview 2008)!

My work around is to exit Mouse Suite as I work in AutoCAD, and re-start whenever I return to MS Office programs.  It's a minor inconvenience, but it does the trick!
