Denny Help! I can't share programs with other users

Hi Denny,
I've installed a few programs and am having problems.
One program is EZTrust antivirus. I think I installed it using the Admin account. (I tried installing something from a user account just to see if I could..one time a run as box showed up and I put the admin password in - not sure which program that was.I think it was script sentry because that shows up for the limited user in startup folder.)

EZTrust appears in each "All Programs" for each user but I can only control the program from the Admin account.

(When I right-clicked on EZTrust from all programs it says you can share this document will all users by putting it in the shared documents folder. First off, when I click on that there isn't a shared document folder, and this is a program, not a document.)

I tried from your tutorial, but when I go to start>open>and click on "Programs" all that appears is Accessories, Startup (which is empty) OE, Windows Media Player, Dell Accessories, IE and Remote Access. Why aren't the programs there?
When I click on "open" all I get at the top is "START MENU", no path.

Can you please help me?

Thank you.

Sincerely, Libra

Libra1,

Any programs that are not shown when you right-click Start and select Open but are available to you in your All Programs listing are in the All Users Start Menu programs.

When you right-click EZTrust in your All Programs listing and select Properties, what is shown? From your description it is not a shortcut to the program.

Hi Denny,
I just went into the Admin account and both User accounts. When I click on properties I have three tabs: General, Sharing and Customize. I also (in Admin) used explore and clicked on EZ Trust and I saw the same three tabs. In Admin, I right clicked All Users and EZ Trust is in there.
I have it set to auto-update when user is online (not to initiate connection) and I just changed the setting from only update when computer is idle. Right now two of the accounts are updated and this User account I'm on is not. When I click on autoupdate it does nothing :(
Do I have to have both users logged on and update with the Admin account? (This defeats the purpose of the auto-update.) The only reason I'm setting up auto-update is this will be my daughters computer - I do all of my own updating on my 98se computer.
I'm wondering why when I right-click properties on any program I don't see any version information, # of files, folders. I do see in the General Tab "read only" is checked.
One good thing, in a limited User account I can use EZAV to scan a file - I just want the latest virus definitions.
Thank you.
Sincerely, Libra

I will close anything running and see if it autoupdates on this account. If not, I'll reboot the computer and see if that helps.

Hi Denny,
I tried to use "options" to edit my above post, but it did nothing. :(

I got the auto-update after rebooting the computer. :) But if I try to manually auto-update the program, the auto-update window will not come up. Is this something that can only be initiated by the Admin account? Again, if I choose to update myself do I have to have all User accounts logged on?

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely, Libra

Libra1,

Only administrator accounts can install items, and that may be why you are unable to restart automatic updates from a Limited account (if that is what you were attempting to do). Windows Updates apply to the operating system, not an individual user's settings, so I would expect that if the feature is enabled by the administrator the system would update itself regardless of whoever was logged on.

Hi Denny,
I'm not talking about Windows Updates. I have my antivirus program set to auto-update, but you should still be able to download the update manually with this setting. I can do that with the Admin account, but not the limited. Is this normal?

I am getting confused by these multiple accounts. I have ONE program for anti-virus, anti-trojan, and others. When I update it from the Admin account the updates don't seem to be applied to the other accounts. How can I get it to update all accounts from the Admin account? What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.
