Device Monitor Application error?

Hi

I inherited my sons old Dimension 8200 and did a reboot form the CD to original setup. I reinstalled all drivers. When I reboot I keep getting Device Monitor Application has encounterd a problem and needs to shut down message. I don't notice any thing that isn't working properly except for getting this message. Does anyone know what this is and how to make it stop? Also, does anyone know if this system would be able to handle a USB 2.0 PCI card? I only have 1.1 now. Someone at MicroCenter told me it would make the whole system too sluggish. Thanks

Hey, BJ.

Google shows this may be associated with Lexmark Printer software.  Does that ring a bell?

Well, DingDong. I do have a Lexmark, and just reinstalled the software after my restore. The printer seems to be working fine, so as long as no other issues arise with the message, I'll just ignore it for now. Thanks for coming to my rescue yet again. :smileyhappy:

:smileyhappy:  Wish I could tell you how to fix it, but I'm coming up empty.

As for the USB upgrade, no experience myself, but I don't see why it would make your system "sluggish" - lots of people here have done it (note the search comes up with a lot of references to the Inspiron 8200 LAPTOP, which isn't relevant to you, but couldn't screen them out):

It was definitely the Lexmark. I uninstalled, then re-installed the printer, and the message has gone away. Yeah!

I also installed a USB 2.0 card, it it caused no negative issues.

I am now the proud owner of a just like brand new, actually improved, 6 year old Dim 8200.

Thanks to all who helped.
