Not dumb at all. Windows manages to hide this well. Control Panel, Date & Time etc., then choose Regional & Language Options instead of Date & Time--dumb, I know. Then select the Customize button to change formats.

Mary G,

Thanks for the response, but I still can only display the time portion on the taskbar and not the date and the time concurrently. There must be something else not allowing both to be displayed?

If you pass your mouse over the time, the date will display. To display the date as well as the time, you need to make the taskbar "taller" by dragging the top edge upward.

This file might be what you want if you don't like the 'hover' feature of XP. It will display the day, date & time. Download DD&T2 to your desktop and then drag it to the quick launch toolbar (left side near the 'Start' button). Once there, if you want to change the standard 'scroll' icon, try this icon.

Another (better) version which is copyable as a time/date stamp DD&T.

Or the reverse Time and Day,Date T&DD

Thanks for everyone's input. I didn't realize that this OS capability was different from the older OS versions and wasn't something that could be modified to ones liking with out 1) expanding the height of the taskbar, 2) having only the option of hovering over the date which I knew of, or 3) using a seperate added function to accomplish this. I will probably just have to be content with the hover feature. Thanks again
