Downloading Windows MP10

Question

I have Dimension 8300, Pentium4, 3.2 Ghz,bags of memory and disc space. I need to upgrade to WM10 (from 9). Maddeningly I keep getting 'It was not possible to complete setup. Windows Media Player not installed.' What's the problem?
Worse still, my MS Update History says it was successfully updated! If so, I can't access it.

You can download WMP 10 from here   http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/default.aspx   save to a convenient folder on your drive and install from there. If install is OK, go to Windows update, there have been some updates for WMP10.

This is excactly what I've done on numerous occasions. The Ostall.exe goes into My Documents but when I activate it I get the ' It was not possible .........'

Try puttiing the downloaded Windows Media 10 install or setup file in the 'download' directory .. some programs will not install correctly from the user profile area
