Email Problems with Windows 7

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 560 in January of 2012. Ever since owning this machine, I've had trouble sending and receiving photographs in any email program I have tried. I installed Incredimail first, which always worked fine in my old Windows XP computer. In this Dell I have had people tell me they don't receive the photos, just blank windows with a red X in the corner. Sometimes when they reply I see the pictures in the quoted part of the message, sometimes I don't. I tried Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, Yahoo, and Hotmail. None work right in this machine. However, if I send or receive emails from my Acer laptop, using Incredimail, everything works fine. Photos are received and sent in emails with no problem. This makes me tend to think it's a problem with the Dell Inspiron. What it is, I haven't a clue. Can anyone help?

Thank you,

Larry Gamache

Hi Larry,

It could be annoying when the you could not view the pictures sent via e-mails.  This could be due to an issue with the Internet Explorer settings. Please reply to this post with the version of Internet Explorer that you use so that I can help you to fix this issue.

Please reset Internet Explorer 9 and delete any browsing history/temporary files. Follow Page 414-417 in this document here:

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3524/t/19480753.aspx

Also ensure that there are no 3rd party toolbars or addons which would slow down Internet Explorer 9.

What security software are you using?

Ok I have followed the instructions on page 414-417. The only toolbar running is the menu bar. I use Windows Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.com

You still have the problem even with hotmail?

Well, I don't know. I haven't tried Hotmail in some time. I prefer Incredimail which I used with no problem until I purchased the Dell Insprion with Windows 7. I'm waiting for someone to answer an email with pictures I sent to see if the reset of Internet Explorer helped. I'll get back to you soon.

Thanks,

Larry

The reset of IE 9 worked for a couple of days. Now pictures aren't being received by some of my contacts, and I'm not receiving pictures from different contacts. It's a mess. I don't know why this keeps happening. I appreciate your help, but I can't seem to keep this thing working right.

Sorry, I can't really provide a screenshot of other people's computers. Mostly the problem is they're not receiving images forwarded in emails from me. However if I use the Acer Laptop, everything works fine. The problem is with this Inspiron 560. I believe it's a defective machine or the Windows 7 was not installed properly at the factory.

Hi LGamache,

Thank you for your reply and for providing an update on the status. This seems to be an issue with some missing browser plugins or due to the security software blocking the pictures. I suggest you to install the latest version of Internet Explorer and configure the security software to allow pictures as attachment in e-mails. This issue is not related to computer hardware or Windows 7.

Please let me know about the status.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I'm very confused here. I don't know what to change in IE 9. There are dozens of options. Where do I find plugins? Doesn't IE update itself with the rest of Windows 7? Do you mean security software in IE or do you mean Microsoft Security Essentials which is what I use as an Antivirus program? There are no photo configurations or many options in MSE. I used to use the free version of AVAST antivirus. Maybe I should go back to it? None of this is a problem on my Acer Aspire Laptop. Incredimail works fine there. Pictures sent and received with no problem.

Hi LGamache,

Thank you for your reply and for providing an update on the status. I am referring to the security software of the system and not in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer does update with Windows 7 and I have found a post on the Incredimail Forum with the same issue. Please review it and follow the steps that are provided as a workaround on it:

Please let me know about your findings.

Hi, Thanks for the info. I read the suggested answer, but that really isn't my problem. What I am experiencing is some people I forward/send emails with images to can't see the image. They just get a blank square with a red X in the corner. I get this on receive vary rarely. 99% of received emails in my Inbox are OK. Images and photos or video attachments come through fine. It's sending them to other people that only works for some of my contacts but not others. I appreciate your help and patience with this, but I can't seem to fix it.
