Email Problems with Windows 7
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 560 in January of 2012. Ever since owning this machine, I've had trouble sending and receiving photographs in any email program I have tried. I installed Incredimail first, which always worked fine in my old Windows XP computer. In this Dell I have had people tell me they don't receive the photos, just blank windows with a red X in the corner. Sometimes when they reply I see the pictures in the quoted part of the message, sometimes I don't. I tried Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, Yahoo, and Hotmail. None work right in this machine. However, if I send or receive emails from my Acer laptop, using Incredimail, everything works fine. Photos are received and sent in emails with no problem. This makes me tend to think it's a problem with the Dell Inspiron. What it is, I haven't a clue. Can anyone help?
Thank you,
Larry Gamache

The issue is not a dell problem its a Microsoft problem and Incredimail problem.
The acer likely works because it does not have WIN7 or IE9
Download and install in this order.
1. Firefox 18.
http://www.mozilla.org/
2. Sun Java 6 rev 39
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre6downloads-1902815.html
If you have 64 bit windows you will have to Download AND INSTALL both 32 bit and 64 bit java.
3. Shockwave
http://get.adobe.com/shockwave
4. Flash
http://get.adobe.com/flash
I would then use the ALT key to show the toolbar and VIEW Toolbars and Check the boxes that are not checked so that they stay visible.
If the receivers get WINMAIL.DAT instead of attachments this is also a MICROSOFT problem.
None of this is a Dell Support issue.

All that? Why Firefox?
I already have Java 7 and Java FX installed. I have Adobe Flash Player 11 Active X. Would they all have to be unistalled first? I don't have Shockwave.
The Acer CAME FROM THE FACTORY with Windows 7 and IE 9. I would have told you if it was another OS and browser.
It doesn't have Firefox or Shockwave. It does have Java J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 which is the only difference I can see between it and the Dell. The problem may not be a Dell issue, but this Inspiron has NEVER been able to send emai with photosl correctly right from the beginning, and I have tried Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, Yahoo, and Hotmail besides Incredimail which I used sucessfully for years with no trouble.

I did exactly what you said. Installed Firefox, both Java programs, Shockwave, Flash, and did the checkboxes in VIEW. Nobody I send things to has mentioned WINMAIL.DAT. Friends report mail send from the Dell has no images. Mail sent from the Acer works fine. Images are there with no problem. I have never in 20 years of using computers seen something as crazy as this happen.

Do you have Microsoft Office, if so does the problem occiur if you send mail from Microsoft Outlook?
Also if you don't have Outlook have you tried Windows Live Mail - Desktop Application?

No, I don't have Office. I have tried Windows Live Mail. I don't think I've tired one called "Desktop Application."
