Email problem with LDAP Directory

Question

I think my problem is just stupidity.  When I try to email from a program I get the Microsoft LDAP directory with connection details.  I am using gmail not the Outlook Email program.  Do I need t fill in the connection details - Server Name, Port, User Name, Password?   I can only email by going directly to gmail.  It makes it somewhat difficult when I want to attach documents or pictures.   Help please!
