This is a solution to your problem.
It is a different Update, but the same problem, so download the Update manually and follow all the instructions

ok people i found the solution and this worked for me... i got a successful download for this update... please follow these intructions. This came from the microsoft forums. The guys name is Chris so rep for him...it works!!

------------------------

Download and run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, and remove the .NET framework 1.1 from the machine.

Download .NET framework 1.1 from the Microsoft website and install it

Reboot your machine, then install .NET 1.1 SP1 from the Microsoft website and reboot your computer again.  Then try to take the update once again.

Please let me know if this works, I have tried it on 2 machines and it seems to work okay, allowing the update to be installed.

Thanks a bunch for that.  The update succeeded after days of failing.  Previously, I had been unable to successfully uninstall the problematic Netframework 1.1.

Again...many thanks!

I downloaded msicuu2.exe from Microsoft and it gave me a Windows Script Host box with the following:

Script:
C:\.........
Line: 17
Error: Permission Denied
Code: 800A0046
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error

Now what should I do, I have to turn off automatic updates so the system will power off without getting hung on this update.

I believe when i tried to run the utility in my system it gave me that same error...i dont remember exactly.

Maybe this can help you and this is what i did too: when you start downloading make sure you save the file to the desktop...once its done, run it as administrator...

I had a few errors here and there doing the update...but if you want to try to be error free run as administrator...

Let us know if this works

I am posting this message to thank Dell for providing this forum in order to help us (their customers) and to atorres4 for resolving the problem I had downloading a critical update.  I followed your steps exactly as you have them laid out (message 3 of 15) and it worked very well -- the first time!
I spent hours attempting to resolve this problem at Microsoft's website and another Q+A board that I visit and had no satisfaction in obtaining this critical update.  Then I came to this Dell forum, read atorres4's solution to this problem and am pleasantly updated.
Dell forum is now going to be my first place to look whenever I have a problem.
Thank you very much!
