Error Loading Operating System

Hi ALL,

I have had some problems all weekend, and its not good, When loading my Windows XP , i get the following message soon after the DELL sign appears, the message is

"Error loading operating system, its in white with a black bakground, so its not the blue screen you normally see with Windows problems.

I then put in my windows XP CD and tried to boot off the CD, but its not letting me boot from the CD, can anyone help?

hi, did you check the cdrom is recognised properly in the bios ?
If so, does it show in the boot order in the bios ?
Does pressing F12 while booting give you a boot menu that
includes boot from cdrom ?

If all are answered by YES i'd personally distrust the XP cdrom...

Reboot, hit F12, and run diagnostics.

if it's an inspiron, just hold down the fn key while pressing the power button to turn it on and boot to the psa tests, that might be easier than picking the diagnostic partition from the boot menu.
