Error Message in Internet Explorer (IE)
I recently started receiving the error message shown below when surfing the web.
I didn't change anything on my sytem. This error just started a couple of days ago and has me baffled.
If I click "refresh" the page usually comes up without a problem but having to click twice and sometimes three times to get a web page to load is becoming a real pain.
Does anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this and/or what I might be able to do to fix the problem?
Any help will certainly be appreciated.
Please try the following:
- Click the
Refresh button, or try again later. - If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
- To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
- See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
- Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
- On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
- Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
- Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
- If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
- Click the
Back button to try another link.

If you're inclined to get technical then this Microsoft article entitled How to troubleshoot TCP/IP connectivity with Windows XP might be of help.
You might also want to provide the symptoms to your ISP's tech. support.

Thanks pacificspice and JarmoD. With your help I have isolated the problem to my satellite connection. I'm using a dial-up connection to post this message and everything (e-mail, instant messenging, web browsing) works with this connection.
I ran sfc /scannow and it found no errors or corrupt files so I now know IE is OK.
I'll have to try uninstalling/re-installing my satellite connection and see if that fixes the problem. This connection has been tempermental in the past and is difficult to set up. That's why I'm looking into a wireless connection which recently became available in my area. Living in the country has advantages but technoligy sometimes takes a while to arrive. They just recently got sunshine pumped in here.:smileyvery-happy:
Thanks again for your assistance.
