Event Viewer, Event 51 and Genesys Logic
Regarding Event 51: I've gotten some good tips from forums (including this one).I've implemented, and will monitor the Event Viewer for a few days; then, I'll let you know how it's going.
I also consistently have this in the Event Viewer: Error, Service Control Manager, Event 7036, The Genesys Logic USB Scanner Controller NT 5.0 service failed to start due to the following error: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
In "Services," I find no mention of Genesys Logic at all. I've ignored this error, because I assumed it refers to something I don't even have on my computer. Now, however, I'm getting worried about these things, that I have no knowledge of whatsoever. Thanks again for any help you can give me.

jcocrb,
If you have software for a scanner installed on your system and that software driver loads, it will look for the scanner. If the scanner is not there, an error like the one you are getting will be generated.

jcocrb,
Genesys Logic is a company which writes driver software for USB devices. The references in your registry are from some program that your computer had or currently has installed on it.
When this message first appeared, which scanner had been most recently removed from your system? Uninstall the software for that scanner.

Oh, and I followed the advice, re: changing the registry to empty page file at shutdown, rebooted twice, and then changed registry back to not empty page file at shutdown.
(I haven't yet tackled the BIOS update -- reason being, it scares me.) Anyway, it's been five or six days now, and I haven't seen any more Event 51's. Hopefully, the problem is solved, thanks to you'all!!
