Event Viewer Security Error 615
I'm getting Error 615 every time I log on and off....I don't get an error (pop-up) message....I 'happened' to find it recorded in the Event Viewer while I was going through the various management tool details etc.....The Event Viewer log gives me approx 5 weeks of history....It's showing that every day/every log on and log off---this error is occuring......Here are the details:
Security......Policy Change.......Failure Audit.......615......NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE.......
IPSec Services: IPSec Services failed to get the complete list of network interfaces on the machine. This can be a potential security hazard to the machine since some of the network interfaces may not get the protection as desired by the applied IPSec filters. Please run IPSec monitor snap-in to further diagnose the problem.I installed the above mentioned snap-in but it doesn't offer any additional info.....I did find the following definition in the Help/Support Index:
615=Remote access phonebook file and current network connection config probably not consistant. If error persists, detete and recreate connection.
I have Dell 2300; WinXP Home; I/E 6.0; AVG Antivirus; Microsoft Windows Firewall; AOL 8.0
I don't feel confident enough to reconfigure a network connection.....Is there any other suggestion????.....I'm probably going to upgrade AOL to 9.0 in the next few weeks---might that automatically address this error 615 issue?
I'd appreciate help with this.....Thanx

When you look at the event properties page, when on line, click on the link in the description. It will open a help and support window from MS with (perhaps) some info and links to relevant KB articles.
I also looked at
http://www.eventid.net/
but they gave essentially the info that you posted.
However, a better bet, if you're not on a network, you could disable IPSEC services. XP starts it automatically, but under most home PC circumstances it is not needed. See
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm suggests disable
and/or
http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm suggests manual (will only start when nen needed)
I have mine disabled, with no problems on a stand alone PC. (XP home SP1 etc.)
While there you might check out settings for other services that you may not need. This can offer some security improvements, reduce memory use and background activity.
