Explorer exe. - Application Error

When I log on I'm getting the following error message:
 
Explorer exe. - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000005).  Click OK to terminate the application.
 
It will go as far as bringing up my desktop but with no icons or anyway to start anything.  I've tried hitting F8 on reboot and going to safe mode to do a system restore, but that's not working.  It goes to Safe Mode and when I try to log on again I get the same message.  I've also tried to go into safe mode with command prompt and it still won't work.
 
Please help!!!!

What you have probably done is added a spayware program running on startup that conflicts with Explorer. See if this article helps. Although it pertains to one application, the procedure can help with many.

It could also be a sign of spyware itself, but try the above procedure first.

Hi, I ended having to reinstall everything, but do not see word or excel.  Do I need to do something to install them.  If so, which CD is it.  I don't feel like staying on the phone with Dell for two more hours.
