Explorer.exe C++ runtime error - unexpected termination

When doing a search of a name in file manager (Explorer.exe) on a USB drive only, explorer terminates unexpectly, but on standard Drives see below

Has anyone got an idea how to rectify, as it never use to happen before, only now after rebuilding the XP operating system.
