FACTORY IMAGE NEEDED FOR DELL INSPIRON N5010 LAPTOP
Sir
It is really a matter of concern that the DELL site is flooded with requests for Factory Image to restore the Desktop / Laptop to factory condition. And, it is more heartening to note that, DELL, after earning money, does not pay to heed to such requests. For desktops, it is accepted that configuration changes with each desktop and, hence, it is difficult to help with a factory image. But, this should not be the case with laptop. DELL should have a copy of factory image of each model of laptop which is sold in the market, and which should be loaded on its website for easy download and installation. Excepting RAM, nothing can be changed in a laptop. My friend has a laptop model INSPIRON 5010 with WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM which has come to me for installing the OS which crashed accidently. I had installed from the disks, but the poor fellow wants to revert to factory settings. Can you help and rectify the mistake he has committed by purchasing a DELL product suggested by me ? I hope you understand the gravity of situation and send a link to download the factory image for the above product which will restore his system back to factory condition. Hoping for a favorable response. The system which was purchased from abroad and brought to India. There are sites on the internet which have factory image and they want in Dollars for the same. When they can upload, why can't DELL. Please examine.

Hi srishti25,
All presently shipping Dell computers comes with the factory image on the recovery partition. Since you have tried to install the OS with the CD, there are chances the recovery partition on the HDD is erased.
In case the HDD is not formatted or recovery partition is not erased, follow the below given steps to set the system to the factory installed state:
Please shut down the system completely. Restart the system and press the F8 key at the dell logo every 2 seconds. On the ‘Advanced boot Options’ select down arrow key and select ‘Repairs computer’.
The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.

Hi Sujatha,
I have followed the steps which you have mentioned above but the 'Repairs Computer' option is not available in the Advanced Boot Options.
If I boot from a Windows7 DVD, I can see the DELLUTILITY Partition and Recovery Partition which is proof enough that the partitions are not formatted.
So where do you think the problem is?
I will be thankful for any valuable advice.
Regards

Hi Prakkadan,
Since the ‘Repair your computer’ option is not listed under ‘Advanced boot option’, there is no option to set the system to factory installed state. As you have the Windows 7 CD, the option is to reinstall the operating system if required. Please backup all the data before installation. After installation, install all the required drivers from the link given below:
