The two programs that you mentioned, accord 32 and hpzstax, are these running by default on startup? If so, use msconfig to disable them. Printer monitors are typically resource hogs and do nothing for you. Your printer will work fine without it. Regarding Acrobat, do you do a lot of work with PDF files, either creating or reading? Again, your system will run much better with this turned off.

That error message, error in FSInfoSector, is what would be expected in the event of an unexpected shutdown, so it's not helping diagnose the problem. My suggestion is to go to Windows Update. There is a utility called the IDE Hard Drive Cache upgrade that ensures your swap file is properly purged prior to shutdown. Check out the MSKB article HERE about it. Try that. If it does not help, post back.

Thanks for the information. I will try it after Christmas and post back how it goes. Hpzstax only starts when the printer starts. I intend to rename it hpzstax.old as it only affects the tool box function. Accord 32 only starts when I view a PDF file on the internet, so I guess I have to put up with that application. Thanks again!

I did download the Q273017USAM file and installed it. That did not solve the problem. I looked at the info on modifying the registry, but I have 2 folders of windows current version. One has only default value in it. The other has a lot of entries. So I don't know which one to use if I decide to do this. Thanks.

Since your original problem is related to startup, I should have asked you about that first. Can you tell me what progams are running on startup? I'm suspecting that it is one of these that is causing the Windows ME loading problems.

Thanks again. Here are the programs running at start up (however the same ones have always been running).

ScanRegistry, TaskMonitor, PC Health, SystemTray, Load Power Profile (I have disabled hibernate and have only used this for turning off the monitor), TCASUTI.EXE, LT Winmodem1(my betterhalf likes to use phone tools), Adaptect Direct CD, UpdReg, TweatUI, Register Drop Handler, Dcfssvc, ZoneLabs Client, ccApp, CCRegvfn, Devld16r.exe. All of these have always been running at start up. The Task Monitor shows explorer, cccap, ZLclient devldr16, ltmsg, systray and sometimes Winmgmt.

I did do a system restore and then had to remove and reinstall NAV as it would not work following the restore. Since the system restore and NAV reinstall computer has been shutting down ok.  I also ran spybot and it found nothing at all. Virus scan also shows no viruses. Could it be that an update to the NAV client did not go well and was causing this problem?

Will post back if problem reoccures.

Thanks, Dorothy

Well everything was fine and computer shutting down OK until I viewed a PDF file within Internet Explorer. Then again accord32 did not shut down. I shut it down from the task bar and shut down the computer normally. At the next start I again had the FSInfoSector error and had to start in safe mode and run scan disk. I have read on google that there is a problem with accord 32 running within Internet expolorer. Since I have a cable modem at present I am just downloading the PDF file and viewing it from the desktop. I will see if this helps. I don't know what else to do.
