Factory Reset Problem

Hi,

Im trying to complete a factory reset for my xps m1530 laptop. originally vista and upgraded to 7 (32b)...

Ive been following the steps on here http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&docid=DSN_362066&isLegacy=true, but when i get to system image stage i cant see dell factory image restore!!!

i think it may have something to do with the fact i replaced the harddrive not so long ago and so it doesnt have the original files.

How can i factory reset without this??

Thanks

You cannot use the Dell PC Restore (Recovery Partition on the hard drive that is accessed by F8) once a different OS has been installed.  Your ONLY option is to reinstall with discs.

If you don't have the discs and you are in the US, you MAY be able to get them from Dell.   Click Me

The correct manual install procedure is: (1) install Windows (2) install Dell Laptop or Desktop System Software on applicable models (3) Install motherboard chipset drivers (4) Install device drivers including Video, Dell sound, ethernet, mousepad, etc

Hello tom_b323

You need a vista repair disk, google for it and download one if need be.

Go HERE and follow instructions. It should work to manually restore the vista if

recovery partition is good. Good luck!

Thanks for the help.

Luckily i have both the disks and i followed the steps from here www.goodells.net/.../vistarecovery.shtml...

Unfortunately when i get to screen 13 (Locating the recovery drive) it does not appear. i have the main standard drive and the boot drive. No recovery drive!!

Could this be because my hard drive was replaced from the factory original one? the replacement was dell but im guessing they dont just ship them out with your factory image restore when replacing faulty hard drives.

what can i do now? are there other ways of restoring?

ive only got the two os disks with me, no drivers.

Thanks

Tom
