Failing to boot to winXP (0x0000007b)
The appropriate Error message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check you hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart you computer.
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7c46640, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Details:
I boot the pc, it goes thru bios, then starts to load xp. It then crashes and produces the above error message. I restart the computer as suggested, and end up returning to the above screen. I then proceeded to use the dell diagnostic cd and checked the hard drive, It confirmed that it was working optimally.
I've tried:
(not in order)
1. Ran dell h/ward diagnostics, to confirm hard drive is performing optimally.
2. Tried booting the computer in safe mode (failed)
3. Tried to run the repair option (not recovery console) on windows XP setup, using the Dell XP disk. This ran successfully, but after setup was finished (i.e 0 minutes left) the computer rebooted and after loading bios and displaying the win xp logo, the same blue screen was displayed.
4. Tried using the recovery console, available via the WinXP setup disc. This also failed, as it asked for an administrator password. I tried the appropriate passwords, from the first password to the one I use just now. They were all rejected. I also tried to hit enter (i.e "null") this failed too. Therefore I can't seem to use the recovery console.
other problems:
1. Whilst running the windows XP setup (countdown stage), a pop-up box appeared, round about the "13 minutes left stage". Each time I clicked ok it would reappear, and setup would not continue. So I restarted the computer, ran set-up again, but the problem did not occur this time. The pop-up said:
"[title] SPRINGFLD_ADV_DAEMON: WksCal.exe - Entry Point Not found
The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL"
2. This message also a appeared the last time the pc was booted succesfully.
Any advice or help would be appreciated. I can't seem to make any progress on this issue now. However I did manage to get round the recovery console problem yesterday, but didn't know what to do in the r.console lol :( Tried again this morning, but I've lost access to the recovery console again.
(p.s I suspect it was a change of graphic drivers that cause this problem)
