File NTUSER.DAT

I cannot delete the file NTUSER.DAT as another program is using the file, and I do not have any programs running in the background that I can find. What program could be unsing that file? Thanks.

Why are you trying to delete that system file? Not a good Idea.

When I try to backup a directory it stops at the NTUSER.DAT file and will not let me finish the complete directory. I don't really want to delete the NTUSER.DAT file but would like to backup the entire directory.

It is ok to back up the directory without the ntuser.dat

It is your user account profile, mess with that and you will not be able to access that account anymore, skip it.

Are you using copy/paste to back up?

Or a program?

Here is what you may have to do, create another user account to log into, login to it and then back up the other user account directory, it should allow you to copy the ntuser.dat while in the new user account.
