File Transfer Wizard...
Hello,
Just set up my new Dimension 4600C
I want to copy over my files from the old PC (Dell Dimension XPS T700R running Windows 2000). Now the problem I'm having is using the File Transfer Wizard, I bought the Comp USA USB link cable (IEEE 1394) ... followed the directions in the Wizard, but on my new PC when I get to the screen that asks where should the wizard look for the files I've collected, the option to click on "Direct cable (a cable that connects your computer's serial ports)" is grayed out and won't let me select it.... the only options I'm allowed are "Floppy drive or other removable media" or "Other". I've tried both to no avail... And from the old computer when I click on Autoselect to detect the serial port, it just keeps checking forever not finding anything. Per page 22 in the Dell's 4600C owner's manual it reads that I should be able to copy files via the USB IEEE 1394. Has anyone been able to do this? Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
CBE

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. When the Welcome to the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard page appears, click Next.
Ensure New Computer is selected and click Next.
When the Do you have a Windows XP CD page appears, select I want to create a Wizard Disk in the following drive: and click Next.
Insert a blank and formatted 3.5 inch floppy disk into your new computer's floppy drive. The wizard creates the disk and prompts you to go to your old computer as shown in Figure 1 earlier.
Starting the wizard on your old computer
Insert the wizard disk Into your old computer.
When the Welcome to the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard page appears, click Next.
When the Select a Transfer Method page appears, select Direct Cable and click Next as shown in Figure 4 below. "

Thanks for your reply... I followed the steps but still don't get the option to select 'direct cable'. I'm hoping to connect the two PCs and copy files. Evidently, this isn't an option.

You said on your original Post the above so you didn't follow Microsoft directions.
You have to create Floppy on new Computer & insert Floppy into old computer & run Floppy for Direct Cable Transfer.
When I create Floppy I then get use Direct Cable shown as a choice but not until I have created Floppy.
